Economical Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures: Module 3

These seminars will provide design professionals with ways to economically design and detail conventionally reinforced concrete members that comply with the provisions of the 2014 edition of ACI 318, Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete. Practical and time-proven methods and guidelines have been compiled from various sources to assist designers in the design and detailing processes of a reinforced concrete structure. Numerous details and design aids are provided that will help in achieving overall economy while reducing design/detailing time.

Two-way slabs and columns are covered in Session 3. Methods to quickly obtain a slab thickness that satisfies both serviceability and two-way shear requirements are provided as are guidelines to economically detail two-way slabs for Seismic Design Categories A through C. Guidelines on how to size columns for economy are presented, and design and detailing requirements are described for all Seismic Design Categories.
