How to Select a Reinforced Concrete Floor System for Vibration

This webinar presents detailed information on how to select an appropriate flat plate, flat plate voided concrete, two-way joist, and wide-module floor systems for various vibration acceptance criteria. The main topics are (1) sources of vibration, (2) vibration acceptance criteria, (3) vibration characteristics of reinforced concrete floor systems, and (4) selection process.

Presented are charts and design aids that give required overall thicknesses that satisfy acceptance criteria for walking excitations, rhythmic excitations, and sensitive equipment as a function of span length. Simplified methods are presented on how to calculate important vibration characteristics of the floor systems, including natural frequency.
